In this 4-part class we will use Daniel Levitin’s work, The World in Six Songs, as our foundation.  In his research, Levitin, a musician and neuroscientist, identifies six fundamental song types: friendship, joy, comfort, religion, knowledge, and love. He brilliantly demonstrates how these six song types function in our brains to preserve the emotional and literal history of our lives and species!! And Through song he illuminates how music has been, and continues to be instrumental in the evolution of language, thought and culture.

In our 4 sessions we will come together in community and explore  these six themes and co create 6 modules of artistic expression. In addition to singing, we will use movement, dance, storytelling, poetry and art making. I will be joined by dance/movement and creative arts therapist, Susan Hartley and other guests. The course will culminate in a performance at the end of the last session which the group can decide together whether to invite friends to observe

This is the 2nd time I am offering this class and we are very excited to go to new levels. We have added an extra session and will be using all new material. This class is perfect to take again and again and go deeper in exploration.
